Subject: Ethnic Minorities in China

 

Performance Objectives:

The purpose of this project is to introduce the 55 ethnic minorities in China. The Han people make China's and the world's largest ethnic group, making up 91.96 per cent of the country's population. The population of the other 55 ethnic minority groups adds up to the rest of the China's population. The culture, languages, traditions of these ethnic minorities will be introduced. Some ethnic clothes of minorities will be displayed.

 (15)  Culture. The student understands the similarities and differences within and among cultures in different societies.

 (B)  Analyze information by sequencing, categorizing, identifying cause-and-effect relationships, comparing, contrasting, finding the main idea, summarizing, making generalizations and predictions, and drawing inferences and conclusions;

 (23)  Social studies skills. The student uses problem-solving and decision-making skills, working independently and with others, in a variety of settings.

Clothes or colored fabric

Computers with Internet connection

Paper and pencil

Procedures:

Students will be given 20 minutes to explore the websites

Then, create a story and design the role-play.

 

Description of role-play:

In a group, students will invent a story, choose and wear their favorite clothes of the ethnic groups, and put on the show in front of other students.
